I don't know where I got this one, but I think now's a proper time to use it:"Assumption is the mother of all fuckups". We assumed the intake-valve of cilinder #7 was bent. We where wrong...
As you can see on the pictures below, my bumbstick was a little bit hungry and started to eat lifters:
Bad lifter on the right
Bad lifter on the right, zoomed in. Surface completely gone.
Bad oil is the cause of this.
Jarno, Andy and Antoon inspecting the intake-valve on cilinder# 7.
A familiar sight which I'm getting used to right now: a red car with an open hood and half an engine in it...* sigh *
Can you say Purple Cam?

Headlight bezel
Kurt was so kind to stuff the trunk of Red with all kinds of goodies. Amoung them where some grill pieces to turn the standard grill into a superstock look. To do so, you have to cut the original headlight bezels into pieces. I thought to myself: why not get a set of spare bezels? Until I found this:

Motortalk
Well...after last tuesday's dissapointment, we started talking and discussing of what can be wrong with the engine. It has to be something in the valvetrain area of cilinder# 7. That's where we found a bent pushrod (intake valve).
What if the pushrods that where initially installed where incorrect and are too long. Could this mean that they will "squash" the lifters so they act like solid lifters? We don't know. We're going to check on that next week.
There was some good news: the new headlights fit like a glove. They have different lenses because of Dutch Law regulations. Also, the handbrake-cable which was touching the exhaust when enabled, is now fixed.

Pain in the head(s)
We installed the new pushrods. After starting the engine, the rattling sound is still present. We did some testing to exclude things but there where some dark clouds gathering in the shed...Conclusion: bent valve in cylinder# 7.
I know that people can run out of luck but can people run out of bad luck?

Paperwork
Not much to post this week, sorry
My car is getting a new set of lifters and pushrods because two where bent. Don't know what caused it, but it has to be replaced. So...where going to do that.
Also, my paperwork is roaming around somewhere in transportland. I'm sick and tired of making "nice" phonecalls every day and getting the same answers. This "process" is killing me. It all started on the 12th of december 2007....I believe I can say my middle name is "patience".

Red on the road
Here are some shots of "Red" filmed with my cellphone. The odometer was disconnected so we just had to test it. It's not legal to drive on the Dutch roads...yet...but hey...I just couldn't resist...
